Day 46 - Chicago

More Chicago!!

Today Stacey took the day off work and we had a leisurely morning exploring Andersonville, one of the many distinct neighbourhoods that make up Chicago. It is a Swedish neighbourhood so we had Swedish pancakes with lingonberries and Swedish sausage.  While we were there we walked past a bakery and saw this:

Yes, it is a turkey shaped cake. Obviously we bought it and will be taking it down to Levi’s parents’ house for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

University of Chicago!

We went for a stroll around the University of Chicago campus which is where both Levi and Stacey work. It is a beautiful place. Look at all these great buildings!

This was my favourite building - Math dept though...
Beautiful window in non-religion-specific chapel
Hogwarts style dining
A theatre hidden on a third floor
Some smiley chick
Look upstairs
This is the reading room which you can see from the outside in the photo above
This is a much more modern (less cosy) reading room in the library - also beautiful

Chicago style hot dog!

After all the walking around we went to sample Chicago’s most famous delicacy – Chicago style hot dog. Apparently the key is to chuck everything you have on it APART FROM KETCHUP. Now, I’m not normally one for photographing food but this is worth seeing:

Add to that the great setting and you've got win win hot dogging:

Yup, that's a toilet

Chicago people!

I also met some cool people who talked to me about their things. Jason works in IT and told me about the toys and things he keeps on his desk:

This freaky doll's hair is made of boiled sweets
I also met Scott who works in the library's music department and spoke to us at length about his theramin:

Other Chicago stuff!

This is what it looks like when you get a ticket in Chicago! (it's for the out of date reg, not my fault!)
Faculty mail exchange boxes
Fancy! Check out the combination locks!
