Day 27 - Mystic Hot Springs to Page

Bryce Canyon

When I told my best friend Raquel about my crazy last minute harebrained idea of doing this trip she said "I only have one piece of advice - go to Bryce" (what can I say, she's a poet)

I have just been there and I can honestly say I owe her a big fat kiss. It is the strangest, most beautiful, unphotographeable place. When you first arrive you see a few red rocks, some of them in funny shapes and you think "ooh, this is interesting"

"Have a Bryce day"?? This place is going to rock!

Then you get in and there's not much to see, just some trees and a visitor centre. If you're like me you think "Grr Raquel, I knew I should never have followed your advice"

By the time you have hiked three miles into the bottom of the canyon and then dragged your sorry butt up to the top again you are seriously considering making a $50 phone call just to thank her (but let's not go crazy, that's what emails are for) It's stunning. It's red and orange and pink and weird and wonderful. Photos do not do it justice.

Project "talk to a stranger"

I met loads of nice people today. I was almost disappointed at how nice and normal they were. Valerie from North Yorkshire was with her husband redoing a trip they did too quickly ten years ago

Coral and Jean were teachers from Canada. Their next stop is Sedona AZ which is apparently an "energy vortex" Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to talk to them more about this. I saw them five times - including once in the ladies' toilets!

This morning I went for a last soak in the hot springs and I had to say goodbye to my super duper rad bus:
