Day 14 - Mendocino

I have wifi! Well, I have Starbucks, they have wifi. Starbucks here is weird - unlike in the UK where they have an endless trail of temporary people working there, here it seems to be quite a good, well paid, stable job. As a result, people work in the same Starbucks for years and get to know the punters really well, so it's more like a local cafe than a soulless chain. Well, it remains a soulless chain but where everybody knows your name, bit like Cheers.

These are a couple of photos of Mendocino I took yesterday when the weather was nice:

Today it's super foggy so I'm not sure I'll be able to see much.

Yesterday I had clam chowder in a bread bowl, something I missed out on in San Francisco. I bought some chowder (like a creamy potatoey fishy soup) and a sourdough bread roll, combined the two and hey presto! San Francisco special, only a couple hundred miles up the road.

While I'm in this Starbucks I am planning the next section of my trip - I'm going up to Portland and Seattle and back down again (inland) which is a really long way so I need to plan where I'm going to stop overnight.

I do feel like I'm missing a trick though - when I got here a random lady (Desperate Housewives stylee) started asking me questions (for some reason this is stranger than me asking her questions - nobody likes a weirdo) and I guess I didn't give her enough because she went on to talk to every other person that came in until she got chatting to a guy in a moustache who she eventually ensnared. They ended up sitting all over each other and then sneaking off to "get some lunch" It was a like an odd fast forwarded Discovery Channel special on middle aged mating.

  1. Hey.
I've just been catching up on the last 10 days or so of your blog and am enjoying getting a vicarious kick out of your trip - it makes for great reading Natalie! (I want to go to Cheese School). x
